    I keep getting this Error C++ Runtime, the render crashed then sketchup. Does anyone know what is causing this? Its not the out of memory message, Ive had that before. Its only a 29meg SKP file, so it shouldnt be that hard to handle... any ideas?????

    Much Thanks

    Im also using Light Cache and IR, my LC has 1200 subdivids. could this cause the crash?
    It seems to only crash during the LC calculations

      That error really doesn't it tell us anything specific about what's going on, and from the information you gave it could be a really wide range of things. So if you could give more information about your scene then that would be much more helpful

        Re: Runtime C++ Error

        Hi Dalomar,

        After researching different render settings I still get the Runtime C++ error and it all crashes.
        When I rebut my machine it seems to work again and I can render the scene. Since I am rebutting
        I am assuming this is a ram issue? I have 8 gigs but I guess after doing 4-5 renders I am running low and it crashes due to insufficient memory?

        When vray renders does it take into consideration everything thats not in my scene, such as the washroom while I'm in the Bedroom? I am currently working on a animation for a client and I keep getting these crashes and its making me very nervous.

        A possible solution is rendering to my hard drive if I understand correctly? I checked the box to render to my HD but I get all these black lines across the image which is discouraging.

        any insight to these issues?

        Thanks

          Re: Runtime C++ Error

          First off, you don't have 8 gigs...I'm not debating that you have 8 physical gigs there, you just aren't able to use that much. If you have a 32 bit system (which you probably have if you don't explicitly know you have a 64 bit system), then the max your OS will see without any adjustments is 2 gigs. You could add a 3 gb switch will allow you to see a 3rd gig, but on a 32 bit system that's it. On a 32 bit system the max memory usage you'll get from a single application is from 1.6 to 2.2 gigs depending on whether you have that 3gb switch installed.

          On a 64 bit system your system will be able to see all the memory, but SU will not because its a 32 bit app. So that should cap off some where in the two gig range.

          AFAIK SU is NOT a large address aware app, which just means that it won't actually take as much memory as it could.

          Anyway, V-Ray will load into memory whatever geometry is visible within the scene. Not just visible to the camera, but anything you could possibly see in the scene. Geometry that is hidden will not be taken into account. Therefore, if you have a whole house modeled with trinkets and furniture, and you're doing a rendering of a bathroom, all of that geometry will be loaded by V-ray unless it is hidden in SU. If it won't be visible in reflections, and it doesn't affect the illumination within your render, then it probably doesn't matter whether the geometry is there or not so you can hide all of that.

          If you're really running out of memory you can save separate files of each room so that SU only has the geometry for that file loaded. This prevents extraneous geometry from being even loaded into SU which helps with the amount of memory that SU alone needs.

            i have taht problem too but i can resolve it increasing the Mem limit in the system tab y have 4 gb of ram and i put the value on 3800 and it works you shoud put it on 7800 and try ...

              Re: Runtime C++ Error

              No, its not that simple...the memory limit that is in the System rollout is for dynamic geometry only. Dynamic geometry is geometry that can be loaded and unloaded from memory during the course of the render. At the moment, the only dynamic geometry that gets created is the infinite plane and displacement. That memory limit just says how much memory can be used to load that dynamic geometry at one time. This does not allow you to use more memory than you would normally, just adjust the "chunks" of dynamic geometry that's loaded.

              Besides, there is a limit to how much memory can be seen by either a 32 bit system or a 32 bit app (as I stated before), so no matter how high you put it, you're not going to get past those limits.

                Re: Runtime C++ Error

                Sheldon, I get these same errors. Mostly though when I havent shut down or restarted my machine in a while. A lot of the times I will let my final renders run at night after doing countless test images throughout the day then come in the next morning and do the same thing over and over again for weeks. Mostly after the second day it kicks me out and I have to restart. Sucks though I have lost a lot of file information through this, restart daily is my only reccomendation, seemed to work for me.

                  Re: Runtime C++ Error

                  Thanx for the tip.

                  I usually restart my machine before every render to clear out the ram, hoping that everything will be good to go. This does usually work, but Im having some issues now with my Animation. I finished modeling and colouring the house, only problem is I click render and I get the runtime error. The total SKP file is less than 100Meg, its something like 96meg. Ive seen people rendering here on files 130meg+, so I was hoping my 90 Meg file would be a calkwalk for it.

                  Its now time to give this thing to the client in the form of a animation, but what do I do now?
                  im stuck at Runtime Error. Maybe its time to switch to Rhino, but I just blew 800 bones on Vray SU. so spending another 800 on Vray Rhino is not in the budget.

                  will rendering to a vrimage solve this? Ive been reading up on it, but it seems i can no longer get the vrimage converter. I also found the Photoshop plugin called EXRFormat but I really have no idea what to do with it. I placed it in my photoshop plugin folder and thats about it. is this plugin supposed to let PS open vrimages?

                  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Im losing money everyday this project stands still.

                  Thanks

                    Re: Runtime C++ Error

                    Dont know the answer to that. VR4SU seems inconsistent sometimes, I have 15 meg models that take forever to process then crash, but I also have the 100 meg models that process in a matter of minutes and render out fine. Keep me posted on what you find out as I am having similar problems.
