  • really long rendering times.

    Hi

I am a bit of a newby to the world of rendering and having real trouble rendering an internal scene I have modelled in Rhino. There are quite a few light sources and much of the internal scene is corrugated metal which I am guessing are not helping with the infuriating VRAY rendering times I am facing, I have tried to reduce settings a couple of times but even so the render times are taking over a week and obviously hogging my computer's resources which I desperately need for other things! Any advice gratefully received, I am happy to share the source file which is quite large (228MB) if someone has the time/kindness to have a look at my efforts and see how it could be improved. I must admit I am slightly baffled by all the VRAY options at the moment.

My computer is running Vista (32bit) Core 2 Duo 2.60Ghz with 4GB of RAM.

    thanks in advance
    Sinan

    Hi,

here a standard HDRI setup for daily use:

    http://www.simulacrum.de/goodies/StandardSetup.zip

Load it to your file and change the settings you need - environment or other scene specific options.

For some more informations to the most important settings you could read the starterkit thread at the tutorial forum section.

If the metal has glossiness a high number of subdivisions could also be slowing the rendering down.

        Hi Sinan,
I'm Skysurfer (Riccardo) I'm an Autorizhed Rhino Trainer and an indipendent VrayforRhino Trainer.

I would try to help you so I'm curious to see your file and the settings.
If you don't mind, you can send it to me at the following e-mail:

info at vray.it (change "at" with "@", of course)

Please, before sending me the file, could you save the file with the SAVESMALL option and zip it to be lighter?

        Thanks
        Riccardo

          Hello all

Really appreciate all the help and advice, will try and them and see how I get on.

Riccardo, I have uploaded the file here, it was one of my first efforts at 3d rhino modelling and VRAY rendering so might be quite a few better ways to do things, your advice would be much appreciated.

          thanks

            Hi Micha

I tried to load the Visopt file you kindly sent but it says 'failed to load options from file' when I try to load it. Any ideas?

            thanks

Hmm, the only reason I know is, that your version could be older than my VfR 1.05.27
