make vray run faster??

Is there any way to make v-ray run faster when it renders, or is the render time solely dependent on the amount and type of materials and adjustments made to render options??

There is many ways. But there isn't one single way. It all depends on your scene.

Amount of geometry affects speed.
Amount of reflective material affects speed.
Amount of glossy reflection.
Amount of lights...
Render settings affects greatly. Some settings you can adjust to speed up without compromising the quality of your render, but those settings depends on your scene.

If you have an example scene, and tell us your render settings, then it's easier to give advise specificity to that scene.
