  • where is the SUN?

    Hi all,
it is my first post, I was using old vray back in the days (recreational), but now in the office where i work they have it and nobody seems to be using it right...
also rhino is totally different from what i have been using.
anyway, I cant find the sun which is casting the shadow always opposite from direction of my directional light. I wanted to have a bit of gi , and one directional light which would cast more dense shadow. I selected override sun parameters, and i haven't even added the sun at any point but it is somewhere and it is making me crazy. btw it is exterior shot and i am using quite similar setting to the one suggested in the tutorial section.

    any thoughts?

    Thank you

    Re: where is the SUN?

Between the initial release for Rhino 4 (which was the first SR for VfR3) and the last SR, the Rhino defaults had the V-Ray Sun and Sky on by default. This was mapped specifically to the the Default Light in Rhino, which is just over your left shoulder. If you're seeing two suns, then chances are you still have Default Lights enabled (its in Global Switches) and/or the Sky is mapped to the Default light instead of the one that you have added.

      Re: where is the SUN?

      Ok,thanks for reply.
So I should toggle OFF default lights in global swich, add sun (which is my second trouble) and instad of using default in sky settings, use light that I add?
I was of course trying out several combinations , too many I think and lost a track :P , but I had problems with adding the sun at a first place. I can do that by typing "SUN" in rhino? next is trouble with positioning and orientating...
the last thing is, if i succssed with adding the sun, should i toggle off override sun parametars in sky? if it is overriden which light does it affects?

      thanks in advance

        Yes

The command itself it SunLight or you can use the button on the V-Ray Toolbar that's right next to the the render button.

next is trouble with positioning and orientating...
This pops up a dialog where you can choose your global position as well as date and time.

No you shouldn't override the sun parameters for two reasons. First is that you can control the appearance of the Sun/Sky through the sun's properties. Just select the light and go to the light properties. There you'll see all the parameters available. Second, there's a bug where the overrider parameters will not be registered, so you won't see the affect anyway.
