  • Displacement and Infinate plane

Just an easy one from me today...

Does displacement work on infinate planes? I have tried a coupld of times and comes up black.

    Cheers,

Nope it doesn't. Displacement requires triangles, and since the infinite plane is procedural geometry there aren't any triangles to displace. There are other issues too, but this is one of the main ones

          I didn't get the joke

A possible solution for you coders

When the limited part of the infinite plane is in view (it is generally a 1:20 is in view of my works), you may only displace that fraction which may save a lot time (also triangulation is not hard for that part)
