  • Splotchy Render

Whenever I render an image with a sun and sky environment, I get these splotchy marks. They don't show up when a texture map is used, just a vray material. I can't seem to insert a photo, but here's a link to my ftp site. The file name is Test 2. Can someone help me out?

For images at the forum post use the image web adress, insert it in the post, mark it and press the little image icon.

Against splotches at the white walls- try a higher Irradiance Map subdiv value, for example 80 or 100 or ... .

Understand that plain white surfaces tend to show off the subtle variances in the IR solution much more than a textured surface will. So even though that solution is likely fine for most other cases, in this one, it needs higher subdivisions.

In simple cases like these that are more along the lines of diagrammatic renders, I tend to lead towards using a DMC based solution for several reasons. First off, I don't have to worry about whether that subtle splotchiness will show up. Second, DMC tends to capture more subtle details that may show up. Thirdly, for some reason the slight noise associated with DMC seams to be received much better than the smoothness of IR. Just my opinion though
