  • Blue in renderings save as purple

    Hi

I'm having a bit of an issue with colour/color. I get the desired colour of blue when I render in Vray in Rhino but when I save the rendering and look at it in Photoshop or a Window's picture viewer the blue becomes a rather scary purple.

Does anyone have any ideas why the colour is changing?

    many thanks

Photoshop and the Windows Picture Viewer both adjust the picture colours based on the monitor colour profiles. I have two monitors and on one of them, if I install the colour profile from the manufacturer PS will complain that one profile is corrupted and Windows Picture Viewer will give a string yellow tint to the image.

Have you looked at the image on another monitor?
Please mention what V-Ray and SketchUp version you are using when posting questions.

The other issue is that its actually possible for V-Ray to create an RGB alpha that is not strictly grayscale. When this gets translated down into a grayscale image for the alpha channel, the color does not wind up looking the same as it does in the framebuffer. The only thing is that I've only really seen this issue when doing rendering with gemstones (ie colored refraction) and having Affect Alpha enabled.

Firstly, thank you everyone for your thoughts on the subject.

I don't have access to another monitor at the moment so have asked someone to check it on theirs. I will keep you posted on this.

I have tried saving as various formats but no luck. (I think I get your theory behind this train of thought - Jpegs can loose some of the data/colour when saving)

I'm not sure it's the alpha as the areas affected are away from the alpha zones.

#1 delete your monitor driver. Its un needed and I have found it more of a pain than anything. Do that and it should be very close. Of course saving as different formats jpg, png, hdr will have much different outcomes (especially hdr) but the other two shouldnt turn blue into purple. Im pretty sure its just your monitor settings so just delete the driver and let your video driver handle the colors.

Re: Blue in renderings save as purple

Okay, I've been told it shows up as blue on other machines so it is likely to be my monitors colour profile.

I use a Sony Vaio laptop because I'm out and about at the moment. I will run my huey correction device to see if that helps before uninstalling any screen drivers. I'm keen to get the colour as accurate as possible as I do graphics and print as well but if purple comes out as blue in graphics that is pretty poor so I'll see what happens.

Re: Blue in renderings save as purple

It seems to print from my laptop in the blue shown on vray even though the laptop shows it as purple outside Vray. I have also seen it for myself in a quality monitor as blue so I assume it is my colour profile. I ran my Huey Pro colourmetricometorthingy on my laptop and it and blue still comes out as purple. Its a bit of a nuisance but I will believe the rendering that is immediately shown by vray for the colours expected to print or to be shown on other monitors.

Interestingly, I remember working on a dell laptop in the past and dell desktop where certain blues would appear purple on the laptop.
