Re: Transparency Mapping. Trying to achieve a specifc image!

    *EDIT* Found it

totally got the image by projecting it onto the surface. I used IOTEQ's method for starters.

I used the lightbulb and it looks great!

I have not applied an emissive layer to it nor have i linked it as a vray material. I will probably sneak an attempt on my laptop at lunch.

    Thanks again,

good to hear mate, what do u mean link it as vray material ? when i get a material in sketch up it automatically gets added as a vray material ....

anyway, pls post your results !

Re: Transparency Mapping. Trying to achieve a specifc image!

Ok so, like i said. I got the projected image perfectly. But now when i try and make the material receive an emissive map i am getting a pure white emissive image.

Before i apply anything in V-Ray Material editor. looks good?

Apply an emissive layer? get this.

Now i have a feeling that the when i apply the emissive layer it needs the bitmap to tell it what to shine through....but since i "projected" the bitmap onto it, it doesn't read it as a new material.

So when i add the "gallystops" bitmap to the emissive layer im kind of back to ground zero.

Basically im wondering when i have the bitmap on my organic/curved shape how do i simply make it an emissive material. (and still have the bitmap show?)

*Edit* I know that applying just an emissive map to an existing material without a bitmap makes it white. But to try and explain further...im wondering how to just apply an emissive map to the material shown? I might just be repeating myself but im confused as to how to match bitmaps when they are "Projected" on curved shapes.

        thanks again!

Soon i will make this happen.

          right .... hmmm

I will have a look later as I'm at work now, i'm sure theres a simple solution

hey man im not too sure about your projected texture issue, seems to work ok at my end - so I am not sure I understand 100% - pls explain a bit more, see here some screenshots

Also, here at work im running the old version of vray so things are a bit different.

Dont mind all the blotches, which I cant seem to control .. it's something to do with the intensity - maybe other forum members can advise on this point ?

On a side note, gallystops whats all these gizmos on your interface ?

Re: Transparency Mapping. Trying to achieve a specifc image!

              Ioteq,

You have to set the material on the box to "projected" (using SU's right-click context tool: Right-click>Texture>Projected) before using the eyedropper to project it onto the light bulb. It's the easiest way to project textures onto curved forms.

              SU 2018 + VfSU 4.0

ok cool, jackson - i got that. cheers.

gallystops = where are u at mate ? did u sort it out yet ?

Re: Transparency Mapping. Trying to achieve a specifc image!

I have yet to apply an emissive layer to test it out. I have been very busy with other work. I try and do a test later this afternoon.

So with the new version of V-Ray...i immediately do not see an emissive options. Was it renamed to something else?
