• Bringing the Virtual into the Reality

Hi there,

my English is pretty bad, so don't be annoyed while reading, please!

_The problem
That's what my problem is - I am now making a Visualisation of an Urban Design Project.
I have a bird's eye view image of a city -

,
http://img831.imageshack.us/img831/8...ausschnitt.jpg ,

and I want to render my Urban Design project and place it in this foto (placement - http://www.myimg.de/?img=Placement8fb0f.jpg ).
It's not only the buildings. but also the spaces inbetween (such as streets, public places, small gardens etc.), that should also be a part of the final image. Therefore I want them also to be a part of the rendering. - http://www.myimg.de/?img=100818withPlacescf046.jpg

I know there's a lot of work to do in Photoshop. But I wanted to show You what the idea of the result in the end should be.

_The questions
1. Which preferences in VRay will give me the best result, fitting to the bird's eye view picture?
2. Would You also render the trees and bushes, or would You place them later in PS?
3. I will be glad to hear all the tipps and tricks, You would share!

_The software
My programs - Sketchup 6 Pro with VRay

Thanks in advance,
Best regards,

Viborg

Re: Bringing the Virtual into the Reality

you do have some experience with vray right?
cause that's a pretty hard challenge...
i think i would render the trees in order to get some shadows...
did you adjust the photomatch?
and about settings, i believe that you could use an hdri, so that your buildings have some enviroment reflections...

Well, I'm not too experienced in Vray, but I have already made some projects using it.
It's not the first time, that I make such an urban design visualisation. I have always been using Sketchup for such things - in some previous projects I used to build everything up in Sketchup and place the facades, trees, people, water surafaces, etc. as textures in photoshop. (here's an old one - ).

Now, that I have to place the new planings into a real surrounding (foto) is something more realistic needed. That's why I wanted to render the planings and insert them, using Photoshop, into the bird's eye image. And in the end, the final image should be a homogenic photo collage, with the new structures being a "real" part of the whole image.

_my questions
1. What did you mean by adjusting the photomatch - I haven't done it yet and I didn't knew how.
2. For using HDRI, I need a HDRI image, don't I?

Greetings

Re: Bringing the Virtual into the Reality

there's a way to adjust models into a photo... try this... open sketchup, go to file, import, image... (try with a human's height photo so that you can understand it first...)
select the photo, and in the righ bottom part of the import window select "use as photomatch"... the picture will be imported and you'll see two red lines and two green lines...
those lines represent the vanishing point lines... you have to move them and make them fit with the photo, so everything you draw will be drawn in perspective... maybe you should look for some video tutorials... you can also adjust the lines after you finished your model.

and bout the hdri... yep, you need one... you can download them from here
http://www.openfootage.net/?cat=15
just look for one with a clear sky, or you'll have reflections on your buildings of gigant trees... :P

Re: Bringing the Virtual into the Reality

Hi,

Does the photomatch setting occur the render in any way?
Because, what I did til now, I imported the bird's eye image as a watermark in the background, so that I have the correct perspective of my buildings ( http://www.myimg.de/?img=Watermark2424a.jpg ) . This doesn't affact the render in any way.

And how should I set VRay in order to properly react to the surrounding HDRI Image?

Thanks for taking the time for answering my qustions, I appreciate it!
