  • Large Model with 3D Trees not Rendering-HELP!

Hello All! I am having some issues with the use of 3D Trees. In fact, they are the "smart trees". I currently don't have that many in my model and yet, I need to populate the rest of it! The problem I am running into, is that the model just won't render. It sits for quite sometime and then either crashes or never makes it to the VFB. I am running sketchup 7.1 and VRAY 1.48.94 on windows 7 64 bit OS with 6 gigs of RAM and a dual core processor.

I have posted my model here: https://www.yousendit.com/download/U...TStwTVZFQlE9PQ

Can anyone shed some light on this? Is it really not possible to render a scene with nice 3D Trees?

The newer vray is more memory heavy than the previous.

Set your dynamic memory limit (under system tabs) as high as your system can handle before becoming unstable. If you use a lot of subdivided reflections or glossy materials (super glossy surfaces like glass, metal or plastic-- i.e., materials where reflection and highlight glossiness are set to 1.0 seem to take up more processing power than they do memory) , try rendering those in a separate pass.

You can render those glossy materials (disable their reflections in your final render) separate using the VFB channel option and selecting only raw reflections and reflections in a second render pass. You should get a mostly black image with some color and highlight splotches here and there. What you do with this is simply import it into photoshop with your final render and change the blend opacity setting to "screen."

Lastly, when you render a full non-composite render... i.e., no rendering out separate passes et cetera... select "render to vrimage" under output. This will generate a 32-bit HDR image as a "exr" file. You can convert this to .hdr with a free plugin that's floating around.

Ive found that not only does vrimage option render faster, you can render out very complex scenes (with sketchup files exceeding 200 mb).

I don't like to give out too many secrets because we're all in competition... but this was a thing and still is a thing that irks me. What's even more disappointing is that this isn't a vray issue... it's a sketchup issue. Sketchup hates complex geometry!

Just as a point of reference...

my sketchup/vray memory limit is about 1.85-1.89 gigs before sketchup falls over dead and bug splats.
