  • i render water pool but it hardly looks like a pool

i used same diffused and displacement map but there isn't any displacement in water . how can it be displaced.
    my configuration are

    Reflection :- fresnel.(IOR:- 1.33)
    diffuse:- atextbitmap
    tranpancy:- acolor (white)
    refraction:- fog color ( 205,247,255)
    fog multiplier:- 0.1
    displacement:- atextbitmap
    multiplier 0.5
    use global disable
    edge length 12

the geometry with the displacement material should be in a group.

i've been having the same problem, i'm in the process of creating a pool scene, and i just cant get the water waves, i've added bumps, displacement, followed tutorials but none of them seem to work.
If you have no critics you'll likely have no success.

Here is the link to download the scene I use on the video tutorial. Now you can look at the scene and see the setting and everything.

thanks fernando. it worked........... .............................. but i don't get, why the geometry and the displacement mapping should be in group, and next thing is it necessary to group with geometry and displacement in other cases like making carpets, grass?

I'm glad it worked for you. Yes, the geometry with the displacement material should be grouped, you can include the geometry with displacement inside another group, but it have to be grouped before add it in another group. The same thing with carpet, grass and any other geometry that have displacement. Displacement need a mesh to displace and when the geometries (with the displacement material) are in a group act as a mesh.

by the way in your video tutorial you've unchecked ( use global disable) and you've increased edge from 4 to 12, but when i redered without unchecking ( use global disable) and edge length 4 ,it also worked fine,

              what it the key difference???????????????

When you disable "Use Globals" the Max Subdivs and edge length is controlled by the materials setting. So you can have different setting (quality) for different materials. If the "Use Globals" is enable, the options are controlled by the Main displacement setting on the V-Ray option. In other word, you can have displacement control per materials when "Use Globals" is disable.
