  • Materials library path

    Hi,
I'm a total newby in vray for Rhino. I have gathered a few collections of vray materials and placed them in a location in my HD but I'm having a hard time getting Rhino to find them.
I have assigned the path to this materials folder in the Rhino Options/Rendering under custom libraries.
Howevr, when I click and open the material editor, all I see is the default material sample.
How do I get v-ray to display all my materials as a collection showing swatches or samples of the materials from where I can choose one to use? Is there such a feature like in all rendering programs?

    Thanks
    Juan

Unfortunately there no way to see the preview of the material when you are trying to load the material in the material editor. You can see the thumbnail using your windows explore, but not V-Ray.

Thanks fpedrogo. So what is the best setup to browse and pick a material? To have explorer open side by side with Rhino? The how do I pick a material in explorer? Do I drag it to the scene ...? What if I want to assign it to a layer? Sorry, It seams a awkward workflow. I guess I'll need to get used. I hope you agree that a proper library access should be a must.

Open windows explorer to view the material that you want to apply and then go to the material editor and load the material. That is the only way to do it. In the new version of V-Ray that we are working on, you can load the whole library of materials. For example, you can put your favorite material in one particular folder and load the whole folder. Also Rhino 5 has a library window where you can see the materials thumbnail. You can't apply the material using the library, but you can see your material without having to get out of Rhino.
