  • HDR light Studio

    Hi,

We would like to purchase HDR light studio 2.0

Has anybody used this sucessfully with vray for rhino? The imported maps seem to come in at a different orientation that is exported in light studio........any ideas

    Many thanks

    Justin

    Hi
To match the HDRI orientation in V-Ray as in HDRI light studio, just rotate the HDRI 270 deg horizontally. You may need to enable the mirror horizontal option if you don't use the flip option on HDR light Studio when you render the HDRI.

      Hi,

      Just to double check ..
Is it the HDRI light studio that we can use with Vray for Rhino the same one as the recommended one from chaosgroup but for Vray for 3Dsmax users? http://vray.info/reviews/hdr_light_studio_1.5/
As you can see from the link it seems we need to manually pick the desired HDRI file and load it in environment slots..? Is that the workflow for Vray4Rhino as well?

      Thanks in advance

Yes, we are talking about that software. The software is not integrated into V-Ray, So as you said you have to manually load the HDRI in the environment or in the dome light. YEs, you can use the same workflow in Rhino. The problem is that when you load the HDRI in Rhino is came with a different orientation than in HDR Studio light. SO you have to rotate the HDRI. Some time you need a 90 deg rotation and other time you need 270, depending of how you render the HDRI in HDR Studio light.

          Hi
After multiple tests with this software... you might be disapointed.
It does not produce real HDR just a HDR like.. but it will give you some nice reflections
What we do is export it in HDRShop (free) then its a real HDR

From what I know, it crashes frequently when importing the obj files. Did you experience that too?

              thanks,
              Alex

                Yes
You need to import low res... I really dont think it is worth the price as it is now...maybe the next release

I test a HDRI from this software and it looks like there is something missing at the file. If you manual set the gamma correction at 0.45 than it looks right at Vray. I suppose so the HDR is saved in gamma 2.2 space, but typical the HDR format is using gamma 1. The easy correction at the texture options of VfR should help.
