  • Maya environment lighting using VRayLightDome

    Hello

We are in early testing stages of VRay for Maya here at Chrysler and I have a few questions regarding the VRayLightDome. When I apply a texture of an environment to the Dome Tex it is displayed as if it were cut. Is there a way to re-size the texture on the dome so it actually fits/is scaled correctly? Are there any tutorials out there that show hot to create dome environments and light rigs using Vray for Maya? Any help or pointers are much appreciated. Thank you

    Hi Przemek,

have you check the Dome Spherical option so you get the full spherical image and not only half of it?

Hi Yannick. I did try it but the floor or the bottom of the environment map wraps to the bottom of the sphere. I need to place a plane under the car to get shadows and it cuts off the env map. Am I simply creating the environment wrong?

You should be able to create a plan with a Wrapper shader to catch the shadow but make the plane invisible in the reflection, allowing your hdr image to reflect in the car.
I personally like to have the plane to reflect in the car as I usually project my backplate on it.
