hey guys i was wondering does anyone have a detailed explanation of what these are and when they should be lowered or raised in different materials? this is found in the fresnel option of a material under reflections

    Hi Skurl
In The manual we have a nice explanation and several examples of IOR values for reflection and refraction. (page 35)

hmmm, i see, another question, am running tests with all the versons of vray for sketchup, oldest to newest, so far am seeing the differences, but can you tell me, why is it some things like the two sided material for curtains doesnt function so well, in the first version for sketchup 6 it doesn't seem to work at all for the other versions it works but not like i want it to, takes forever. am just asking questions, am exploring materials better cuz i notice only a handfull of sketchup users really understand how to use vray in it properly and imho i dont see good quality renders here no more since chaos took over, i miss good renders and level of realism, we were progressing so good, now....idk its like downhill for now, maybe its a time period or phase here. but i wont leave it!! vray for sketchup to the end!!

Hi Material with refraction and refraction glossiness seem to be slow. If you want to improve the render and the render time you in the sample render that you show us, you could use 2 sided material. I think you could achieve more realistic translucent effect with 2 side material and you don't have to use refraction layer.
Please see the following tutorial related to the 2sided material.
