  • .mat to .vismat

    Hi all
Why can't I open .mat files? Is there a convertor for transformation .mat to .vismat, isn't it?Where can I download it?(If it exists, of couse)
    I use SketchUp 8+ Vray 1.49.01.

    Hi Zaxarius
You can not use .mat, because we have a different material format for V-Ray for Rhino and V-Ray for Sketchup (.vismat) that is not compatible with .mat. We made a converter long time ago, but it is out of date and doesn't support the new material features that we have in the new build of V-Ray for Sketchup.

There was a plugin for Max that would convert some of the basic material properties over to our vismat format, but the .mat format belongs to 3D Studio Max. It's not really open to developers, so there's little hope to ever see a stand alone converter that will take their proprietary format, and convert it to a vismat. This topic comes up from time to time, but we don't have a different answer yet Sorry.
