Don't you mean a V4SU update..............please I'm joking. I'm very excited to see what you have achieved with the Rhino pluggin.
Lets hope your just as successful with SU. Since you have been working on Rhino pluggin for the last year. Is it safe to say that it will
take that kind of time to implement it into SU?
We will need some time to figure out how to do some things on the SketchUp side of the fence, and there needs to be some time for planning and regrouping after the VfR release. We're shooting to have VfR released by the end of February. We aren't sure when we will begin the next testing phase, but we are hoping to do simultaneous updates to both products in the future, now that the rewrite of our plugin is up and running for both products. That means shorter development cycles, more testing, better feedback, and an all around better product.
Devin, not sure you can answer this: Will there be a beta release for vfsu before the february vfr release? I would love to see at the very least some of the bug fixes of vfsu that were promised (copy and paste components for example)
Devin
Im also very confused. We were told that once the rewrite's of both plugin's were complete, updates would more or less roll out at the same time. I have very mixed emotions about the roll out of the Vray4Rhino update. Excited on one hand, to dream that this maybe achieved in SU. But truly gutted that in over a year, bugs from your last release are still unfixed. Also to think that you guys have been spending so much time on developing new features for Rhino. When I thought the idea was to update Rhino to the stage of SU and then try and bring out new feathers at the same time. Have I totally misunderstood what you have said in the past.
I take it, that you will be busy with the Rhino pluggin and all its new features until its final release in late Feb. Then there will be a period of maybe bug fixes for that. So lets say a month. Then a couple of months for planning and regrouping. Then a further 6 months to bring SU in line with Rhino, if we are lucky. Also sometime to fix original bugs from 1.49.01 release a year ago. So if all goes well we maybe in line with Rhino before next Xmas.
I feel like a donkey being lead around with a carrot on a stick. I know this is not your intentions and you guys are working very hard. Its just I would have jumped ship ages ago if I knew how long this was all going to take. Not for more features but to fix out standing bugs.
I cant afford 3ds Max and Vray for an Archviz work flow. But I would look into a Rhino and Vray setup. Is there any special deals for customers who have already bought a Vray product?
Alto - Nope, need to put VfR out there first. They've been waiting for a new version since before we even started working on the last VfS update, so they get theirs first.
Holmes - Our company was purchased by Chaos Group, and we were told that we needed to have some additional features added. It was not our original intention to do that at all, we just wanted both products to have the same features, same plugin core, and then do simultaneous roll outs from then on. I don't disagree with the decision to bring on additional features, because this is something all users have always requested, but the timing of it did extend our development cycle by a couple of months unfortunately. The good news is, that as a result, VfS is about to get some shiny new features.
I'm not sure if there are any deals for getting a VfR license if you're an existing VfS customer, but I do know that the VfR open beta phase is already under way, and if you have a copy of Rhino, you are more than welcome to sign up for it and use VfR while waiting for a new VfS version. We're moving as fast as we can.
Would it be possible at all to at least get some of the bug fixes put out as a beta? Hate to complain, but some of these bugs are really frustrating for workflow. Been waiting patiently since the beginning of the year...
