  • VrayMTL source code

    Hi,
Im currently working on a project using vray 2.0 for maya (2.00.04 i think, im not 100%, im at home, machine is at work), however im having touble using opacity maps and the BlendMTL.
I created a base shader which has a texture mapped into the opacity slot, and the same texture modified into the refraction slot. This shader renders quickly (2mins frasme 1080)
I then map that material into a BlendMTL in additive mode, with a second vrayMTL setup for additional specular. This render takes much longer (20+mins).
ive tried multiple scenes and the same result. Would it be possible to get the VrayMTL source code so i can add an additional specular component, save using a BlendMTL.

    Thanks
    Richard

It is more work than you think; first you have to modify the V-Ray for Maya translator to recognize your extra parameter, second, if you take a look at a .vrscene exported from Maya you will see that the VRayMtl is not a single shader, but is split into several components put together with a layered material and there isn't one specific place where your extra specular would go.

It would be a lot simpler if you can get me a scene to vlado@chaosgroup.com so that I can check what is taking so much time.

    Best regards,
    Vlado

ive fixed the problem by setting the blend amount to 0.999, 1.0 causes it to slowdown massively, however 0.999 is fine. By the way does opacity maps work with 2 sided materials? Opacity on the front side works, but if i put the same opacity map on the both sides Vray crashes.

      Thanks
