  • PhoenixFD Beta for Maya questions

Having trouble getting the PhoenixFD Particle Texture to work in the displacement channel of the PhoenixFDSimulator, are there any tutorials on how to set it up?

The PhoenixFD Particle Texture is considered somewhat obsolete, because it's too slow. However if you want to experiment, here is a modified version of the nuke scene.

If the PhoenixFD Particle Texture is somewhat obsolete is there a better way to add small dental to your simulation other than upping the resolution of your container?

the displacement was introduced for this reason, the main problem is how to make the details to follow the simulation.
in general there is no good solution for this problem, just increase the resolution.

Displacement with normal texture is faster if you can get good result with it... However SpaceTime noise texture in Maya is currently not supported (and I've read that it's the best for such effects). From my small benchmark with the scene I sent you:
          - without displacement - 10s
          - displacement + volume noise - 3m 40s
          - displacement + particle texture + volume noise - 14m 50s

We are thinking in that direction, but currently these are the options. If you are targeting at something realistic, adding more resolution is always the best way... You can also try to using the buffered conservation method which tends to preserve better the detail.
