  • Texture Mapping Channels

    Hello Everyone!
When and why would someone use 2 or more texture mapping channels? Just curious and wondering what other people would say to this.

    Thanks a lot!

For example if you want to use a wood veneer image with a tile texture.
In this way you didn't need to pass to Photoshop each time you want to change the size of the veneer or the tile.

If you would to have 2 diffuse layer interacting with a certain pattern. If you would to test meny different color and size for a textile pattern.

      And many other.

Hi one of the most common use of more that one texture mapping channel is to create decals. So you can have every single decals in different channels. In this way you can separately control the orientation and the scale for the decals.
In the following image of an helicopter, I used three channels. One for the main body yellow and white texture paint (channel 1) , other for the T-Spline logo (channel 2) and other for the V-Ray logo (Channel 3). All of them in the same material.
Also it is very useful when you are using a bump map texture that is different from the diffuse texture. So you can use channel 1 to control the orientation and scale of the diffuse texture and channel 2 for the bump map texture.
