  • Renaming VrayMtlSelect renderelement

Is there a possibility to rename the VrayMtlSelect renderelement? When rendering the element is named to "VrayMtlSelect"+ the name of the assigned material. Renaming the selected element parameters is somehow ignored.

Which V-Ray version is that? It seems to work fine in our latest internal builds, but I'm not sure about the official ones. Also, can you describe the steps you are using to rename the element (perhaps we are doing something differently).

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

      It's V-Ray 2.20.03
I just add the VRayMtlSelect to the Render Elements, pick the material from the object and rename it in the Selected Element Parameter. When I render the scene or save it and reopen it, the name is reseted to "VRayMtlSelect"+Material name.

I just did some tests with a very simple scene and in some cases the vray framebuffer shows the correct renamed VRayMtlSelect element. BUT: the point is when you save and reopen the scene or when you sent it to the renderfarm, then the name is reseted to the default!

          Bumping up the old thread......

the issue remains in 2017 (3.40.02)...
would't it be possible to include the "autoupdatename" function of VRayExtraTex Element in VRayMtlSelect?

Even trying to remove the "VRayMtlSelect_" prefix via script just before rendering only works with local renders and not on the farm...
I would love to get rid of the excessively long RenderElement name and also the underscore that get automatically added.

          cheers!

I'll make a note about that. Thank you for the feedback.
