  • Cameras and render output with V-Ray for SketchUp

    Hi,

I am new to VRay for Sketchup, and am having unexpected results with my render ouput. I am unsure of whether these are glitches in my settings or if this is just the way the software works.

I had hoped that my render output extents would match my camera view extents, but have not figured out the settings that might allow this.

I also had hoped that running a render today from a saved scene would produce the same ouput extents as a previous render from the same scene. This does not seem to be the case with my current settings.

I am unable to post attachments on this discussion forum, so I posted my question with attachments to cgarchitect:

thanks in advance for any ideas,
    Michele

can you post some images from an image sharing site like http://imageshack.us/
I'd be glad to take a look, but your pdf's aren't viewable without registration.

If you want to match views - you can check the option to match viewport size/ proportion. Also, note that 2pt perspective and parallel projection don't properly translate to the vray camera. Another thing to note is that vray adjusts based on the width of the scene, while sketchup adjusts based on the height, so if you change your SU viewport size, you will notice a shift in the vray image if you don't check the match viewport option.

      andybot_cg,

      I posted two images to:
      http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images...etorender.jpg/

(aside: I filled out the registration form today, for the third time in as many days. I also sent a copy of my information from the form to the chaos forum help e-mail address, in hopes that maybe it might be processed. )

      BASIC INFO
      Sketchup Pro 8.0.14346
      V-Ray 1.49.01
      Win 7

      BASIC SETTINGS USED
      Advanced Camera
      Camera>Perspective
      VRay Options>Camera>Physical Camera=on
VRay Options>Output>Override Viewport (+Get view aspect)

      DESCRIPTION OF IMAGES:
      1. Render+camera-view-window.pdf
This is rendered output, overlaid with grey bars and a yellow border, showing the areas rendered beyond the camera view. The unshaded area in the middle (with white sky) is the extent of my camera view.

      2. Screensize_to_render.pdf
This is a screenshot of my advanced camera view in sketchup, over the ouput render image. The rendered area extends beyond my monitor screen.

My sketchup camera is matched to a site photo, using Styles>Background>Watermark>Overlay (not shown in jpgs). Ideally, I would like the output to match the extents of the background site photo, without adding the step of cropping the rendering and resizing the background image.

      PLUGIN ALMOST SOLVES PROBLEM:
I tried Thomas Thomassen's Camera Sync tool in his 2010 V-Ray Toys plugin, and it got the rendered output extents close to my camera extents.

I'm still curious if there may be additional settings/tools that help with consistency in sketchup viewports/cameras and render output.
My company recently switched from 3ds max to sketchup/vray, and I'm trying to figure out how to translate my old workflow into the new software.

      Thanks,
      Michele
