  • VRay 1.5 Cannot Load after Rhino 5 update

    Hello,
I havent been able to get Vray for Rhino 5 to load. I have tried installing the RDK update and reinstalling Vray 1.5 for Rhino 4 and 5 in admin mode and still nothing. It all started after the previous rhino 5 update. Apparently the person in the bug forum got it to work after having someone from vray fix it for them. I would ask them but from some reason I can only post on this. (link below) I have also tried asking Vray support but they must be too busy or something. Any ideas?

    .

    Thanks a lot guys!

the few last Rhino update now installs in programfiles/beta instead of programfiles/wip
so you also have to reinstall vray, giving the right path

Thanks a lot for the tip. I just installed the new rhino 5 update and then completely uninstalled vray 1.5 and reinstalled it with the new \rhinoceros 5 beta directory. However it still isnt working. I even went into the files to make sure that vray is it in.

I posted a screen shot of my rhino error message as well as vray in the rhino 5 beta folder.

I will still try to mess around to see if anything works. I am thinking about completely uninstalling Rhino 5 and seeing what happens.

We got the same error message, also following a Rhino upgrade but on a Windows 7 machine, when the permissions on the ASGVIS directories weren't correct. On Windows 7, where the ASGVIS directory is in C:\ProgramData, somehow the "write" permissions were removed and V-Ray needs to be able to write some data there when it launches. On XP this folder would be in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data. It's an outside shot, but the symptoms are similar -- it may be a permissions issue; try changing the ASGVIS folder's write permissions so that Users have write all the way through the tree and see if you get a different result.

Thanks a lot for the tip. How do you go about changing the write permissions?

Here's a link that gets you most of the way there:

              http://www.microsoft.com/resources/d....mspx?mfr=true

As the simplest way to test whether it's a permissions issue on the "ASGVIS" folder, you want to add the group "Users" if it is not already showing in the top window and make sure that the "Write" box is checked in the bottom window. Then, click on the "Advanced" button in the bottom window and look for the small box that begins "Replace permission entries on all child objects...", check it, and press the "Apply" button. This will ensure that the "Users" group gets "Write" permissions in all of the "ASGVIS" sub-folders. Now try loading V-Ray and see if this fixes/changes the problem.

Solved! I dont know what I did really. I all I know is that in the past I would open rhino 5. go to the render tab, set current render as VRay and it wouldnt load. This this I went into options, plugins, then enabled Vray and it worked. I never had to enable anything before. Weird. Thanks for your help guys!!
