  • Environment difference in vfr 1.48.18548 vs. 1.50.22165

I have an vray export package that I made from Matrix (using vfr 1.48.1854. When I bring this model + settings into vfr 1.50.22165 it doesn't render the same. The metal I'm rendering comes out much darker. The preview of the background environment texture even looks different.

Was there some bug fixes or alterations between these versions that I can compensate for and achieve the same rendering?

I've checked that all the right texture maps are being used and all the settings appear exactly the same for VRay. I have to assume something got tweaked internally.

    Hi Simontam
We have some migration issues that we mentioned in this page. Some of them are old bugs in the old version, that we fixed in the new version. Due this you could have some difference in the render. I think that your issue could be related with this one.

    "HDRI and V-Ray Sky gamma

In V-Ray 1.05.29 there was a bug that caused HDRI and V-Ray TexSky to have the incorrect gamma result. We no longer apply the inverse the gamma to and HDRI or TexSky because they have their own gamma value of 1.0. This could affect your final rendering. To get the same result as in V-Ray 1.05.29 you will have to correct the gamma for the HDRI in the V-Ray texture editor. We don’t have a way to correct the TexSky gamma."

If you want the same result as in the previous build, you can manually correct the gamma of the HDRI.

Yeah I saw those notes. I wasn't sure how to intepret whether the gamma bug went directly along with the TexSky or if it was more directly related to the HDRI. It sounds like the gamma bug is directly related to HDRI which is my situtation. What I am struggling with is what the new gamma setting needs to be but i don't know how that bug actually affected the gamma result. If the gamma previously was 1.0 then what should it be in vray 1.5? Any ideas?

        Hi Simontam
I'm very curious about this. Can you send me the scene file so I can look at it. I want to be sure that the issue is about gamma.
