    Hello forum- This is my first post of many. I have been using vray on rhino for the past two years at school and now have a professional copy for my own work.

    I received my usb/ license/ dongle for vray / rhino 1.5 today. I have been trying to get vray to work for about 10 hours and I have lost steam in the process. I hope this is an easy fix. Since I'm not the first to load vray into rhino can someone please give me some suggestions to debug the issue[s] I'm having.

    first my system specs- quad core i7 ivy bridge - 16gb - windows7 64 bit (I know 32 bit isn't taking advantage of the ram at this point I will migrate to rhino 5 later)

    I am running rhino 4 w/ current service release [this is 32 bit] and I have loaded the current rhrdk release as recommended during the vray install. I have gone through the spot3d instructions/pdfs etc. about 15 times and have unloaded and reloaded vray over and over along with the wibo variations on the dongle software from 32 bit to 64 bit based on what the pdf on spot3d recommended.

    My issue occurs when I do a test render [settings are low]- I open rhino and I create a box and then hit render the icon the vray progress window opens and then when it gets to "clearing color mapper" it hangs/freezes. I also tried to see if it would do the same if I went into the material settings and created a simple material and then selected preview. when I select preview rhino shuts down.

    I have also gone to localhost:30304 to check on the license it seems ok- am I missing something? at the bottom of the license server it say "click here to email license ID to chaos group" so I've click that and I guess it sends something and then you can see a link to upgrade licenses at the bottom. is this where I am missing something.


    This is where I'm at - if anyone can spare a second I would really appreciate it.

    ok- I'm not sure I'm did the correct thing but I just went to the "license server" and did the upgrade and emailed a .wbc file to chaosgroup and it says I should receive an .rtu file to open. Is this what I am waiting for? after dropping this much cash into a product I assume it just works when you install it. Please if anyone has any input on this please let me know.

      update - issue resolved-

      When I received the .rtu file this morning via email and upgraded the WIBU key everything works.

      Based on the headings and writing in the PDF it sounds like you do this last step if you need an upgrade for the WIBUkey. I would recommend spending about an hour and re-writing the installation instructions and remove the install "quick" from the title as you have to wait for analog correspondence from Chaosgroup to receive the .rtu.

      enough complaining + finally back to work.

        Hi!

        I am educational user, but I faced exactly the same problem with the installation. I am also eager to know how to solve this problem as it's bit awkward to have useless computer programs, when one would need them.

          Sashja86,

          Take a look at the last 3 pages of the spot3d link I posted before the last three pages go over what to do to reprogram the dongle. What wasn't clear was that you must email this file to chaos group and then wait for them to mail the update file back.

              Hi,
              I have installed rhino 5.0 64 bit and V-Ray 1.5 64 bit version, have sent the .wbc file to chaosgroup and received the .rtu file but when click on the update.rtu file a message box appears : "RUN DLL There was a problem starting c:\ Program The specified module could not be found". I run windows 8 64 OS (x64).
