  • Multiple VRay HairMtl in one scene? (Switches) Please help ^.^

Hello Fellow Vray Users! I was wondering if any1 could spare some time and help me really quick. Sorry if I posted in the wrong thread or if this problem has already been adressed.

I've had problem with the Vray hair mtl lately. Currently working with the latest version of Vray on 3ds max 2012(64 bit). Another note is that this problem can be recreated on multiple computers, as I've made sure to test it before coming here.

We're working on scenes with multiple characters in a scene. Is this the correct procedure? This is how I've been doing it.

    Created Hair and fur modifier.
    Create vrayHairmtl and name it
Check apply mr shader in Hair and Fur drop down menu
Drop Vrayhairmtl into the Mr Parameters material box
    Go to hair effects panel.
    Switch to MR prim

and that's it right? well I've done this for 4 characters so far and they render perfectly and smoothly when they're in their own separate files. When I merge them together though, there's always random hair switching. The combing is fine, but the color swaps frequently. I've tried restarting and that sometimes fixes the issue. But I've also run into instances where the hair stays swapped even after restart.

I've also tried to use the VrayHairInfoTex to use the hair and fur material, but the hair still swaps. So I can only assume that the Vrayhairmtl textures have a hard time sticking to what it's applied to when multiple ones are in the same scene?

I've also Created a VrayFur modifier, and applied a texture to it for a grassy look. When put in scenes with other characters, the grass also switches textures with the characters hair.

It's just a bizarre issue and I was wondering if anyone has run into this problem before? I've googled and searched throughout the net, but no one seems to have had this problem before and it wasn't brought up anywhere. If anyone could help, I'd realllyyy appreciate it. Thanks!!

Can you get me a scene that replicates the problem? I know there were issues with several Hair&Fur modifiers applied on the same object, but it should be fine if they are separate...

    Best regards,
    Vlado
I only act like I know everything, Rogers.

you assing a new mat to one object and after reloading the file all objects in the scene have the same hair material...

I made it work with the use of compact material editor.
