  • My first renders...

Hello! This is my first post here and i hope that this forum is suitable for my post. I discovered Sketchup about 3 weeks ago and since then picked it up as a hobby. Now i made some rendering tests with Vray and i'd love to get tips and criticism on how to make my renders look more realistic. So far (i have never worked with any 3d program before) i have learned some basics about illumination and materials, but i am far from satisfied with my renders. Anyhow, i'm having great fun working with SU and Vray and when i'm finished with school next year i might be interested in studying something in this direction... So criticism is very appreciated!

There's no particular reason why i went for this "medieval" look, i just felt like doing something like that after watching a movie!

Hey, these are pretty good renders. i had not seen them.
maybe you should try to copy the forum code in imageshack, so we can see your images without having to open another page.
Great work. i´ll give you more critics later.

Hey thanks a lot for the tips guys! The first pictures i posted were just some kind of material tests where i practiced working with materials and doing some objects with the follow-me tool. I made another render, but the idea is basically "stolen" from a render i saw on the internet. I just rebuild it for practice since i'm starting to work a bit with architecture, and man that's A LOT of fun!
Is there a good texturing tutorial where i can learn how to texture those pillars better? If you look closely you will notice that on the round pillars the texture is behaving strangely and not looking very realistic.

(Thanks to ACastro for showing me how to show these images directly!)
