    Hey guys,

is there any hack to exlude specific objects being lit from my vraylightmesh object?
Break Light link doesn't seem to work.

    cheers

    Hi,

If you've created the mesh light from Create -> V-Ray -> Mesh Light you can use the node mymeshlight_lightlink to do the connections.

      Hi Teodor,

thanks again for droppin in. It's totally confusing in my view. What's all about this create - vray ... options?
In my scene i have also a domelight, and i want also to delink the shadow Link with some objects.
Normally it's a task for 2-3 seconds but it's getting totally annoying in Maya.
I can't break shadow link with the Domelight. Also when i create the Domelight from the create --> Vray menu
the Domelight will not affect my scene at all. All this really remembers me using mental ray.
But to be honest it's really disappointing that such "bugs" / non implementation is also now happening with Vray.

What version of V-Ray for Maya are you using?
Because versions before 2.20.0 doesn't support shadow linking.
I've just tested it - shadow linking the dome light works as expected.

Can you give the exact steps needed to reproduce this problem?

Yes? In that case, please write to Autodesk and ask them to add real plugin light objects to the Maya API, like they've been promising for years now.

          Best regards,

You will have bugs on all softwares. The most important is : do we have a workaround ?
If yes, it is not a problem.
If no, you write here the problem. And Vray has the best support that i know, you can be sur that your "bug" will be corrected if you haven't a workaround.

            Like you say :

But when you have a bug in MentalRay for Maya, write to support and see what it's happen :

First of all, Vray's support is absolutely amazing, there is definitely no question about it!
I think we all know about Autodesk's lethargy when it comes to implement promised features.
I didn't know that you guys are dependant on new API structures in order to fully implement such features.
In other words, guys - please don't get me wrong - i really appreciate your help and especially Vlado's tips.
I hope that my "harsh" words don't make you feel that i'm ungrateful. Hell no!
@Teodor - Maybe i got these problems, because i'm still working in vray 2.0...

              cheers guys

As I've said shadow linking is not supported in this version for all lights, it works fine in 2.20.
But there is not reason for the second bug you described:

                  Sure mate...

New Scene --> Create --Vray --> Create Light from Vray Plugin --> Domelight.
Create a plane and a sphere --> render --> everything is black.

                  cheers

Hm, that's not how you would normally create a dome light; the usual way is Create > Lights > V_Ray_Dome_Light; then it works correctly. The Create > VRay > Create Light from VRay Plugin is a special case for creating custom lights.

                    Best regards,
                    Vlado

                      Yes, i know Vlado.
i normally create my lights from the standard vray - > Lights menu. Then everything works fine - except the missing shadow option / shadow linking.
But then it's because my prior Vray version.
