  • Depth of Field - everything is blurry!

    hi there,

maybe you can help me. i tried to render an image with the DoF-Tool from vray.
i tried a lot of numbers and used the tutorial of nomeradona... but i wont work, everything is BLURRY...

i think it doesn't understand the "override focal dist"-order i give to vray...
i work with milimeters (europe-standard) - my 'sharp' element is 1300mm in distance to the camera, this are around 52 inches.

look at the attachements, maybe u can see something i did wrong?

THANKS FOR ANY HELP ANS USEFUL TIPS!

I looked at your scene and the problem is that your F-Number is too low. You have to increase the F-Number. I tried with 14 and the DOF came good. You have to be aware that the F-Number also control the exposure. So if you increase the F-Number you will get a darker image. You will have to decrease the Shutter Speed or increase the Film ISO to compensate the exposure.

              hi Fpedrogo!

thanks a lot for this excellent tutorial of Ciro Sannino!

especially the importance of the "apertures" because although with different values if get the same amount of light exposure, in accord with some experts say, the resulting image is not the same, at least, in real photography!

hi there, i tried again - and failed. my render output is everytime blurry. i have no sharp element in my rendered image. as u told me i tried with F-Number 14 and ISO200 - nothing happened. the result is still blurry, not that heavy like in the first post, but blurry... is it, because i am working in milimeters? i can chance every number several times, but the rendered image is blurry in any way!

i changed the FoVoverride from 1 to 20, 38 and up to 100 - everytime the same image... WHAT!!! =D

check your "Override Focal Dist" - this is the distance from the camera to your focus point (in inches - multiply by 25.4 for mm) Need to have that box checked to use a specified distance.

i have always checked the box "Override Focal Dist" - the camera is around 1020mm distance to the glasses. so, as u says, it has to be around 40 inches.
                          other prefs: aperture 1.0 / center bias 0.0 / shutter 12.0 / ISO 100 / F-Number 14

still blurry picture.... i don't get it =/

Did you just say this "is it, because i am working in milimeters?"

Why are you using inches there, but working in mm?

sketchup model units are inches, so the units in the vray dialogue boxes are in inch.
