Need help choosing a laptop system that works with vray_RT

Hi there.

I'm in the market to buy a laptop with system that is known to work with vray_rt feature in Maya.

I would like to know which card below allows me to use the RT feature.. also will I need Maya 64 bit version or 32bit is fine?
The laptop system im looking at can have one of the gfx cards below.
* nvidia geforce gtx 680M 4GB - Autodesk says this card is not recommended for maya.. its a keppler type video card ???
* radeon 7970m HD 2GB - some say its a gd card for its price. this man says it doesnt render in vray RT - http://forums.cgarchitect.com/71091-...tml#post366232
* nvidia geforce 675m 2GB
* nvidia quadro K3000 2GB

If none of the cards above doesn't work I appreciate if you could suggest a laptop/videoCard and where I can get the laptop/system.

so i'm thinking of getting this card for my new laptop - radeon 7970m HD 2GB

could anyone tel me if the card works with vray_RT in maya 2011? or 2013?

Nope, it doesn't work unfortunately. Get one of the nVidia cards.

Where u buy ur laptop from? Guys at PC specialist got best offers in UK so far. I got mine workstation laptop from them...

yes works fine.. not much faster than a gtx 580, but more power efficient... plus you have that nice 4gb ram, and vray RT needs as much ram on the gpu as possible.

if you want to know about performance there are a few threads here with comparisons between various cards. only rule for now is.. ati cards sadly dont work.. its a driver issue apparently. real shame as they are faster than nvidia cards in a lot of gpgpu benchmarks..

I got this information from the sales guy. he said 680m is not recommended.. that is why i was going for 7970m, but the vray specialists on this forum are saying 680m is the way to go.. is it because I'm wanting the RT feature?

With regards to Maya, since it is an Autodesk program and uses similar concepts to CAD software, it would require a video card that is
capable of handling the calculation of complex 3D and 2D models efficiently. NVIDIA's 680M and recent upgrade to the keplar architecture
have been centred specifically around gaming, as a result it is not as well optimised for CAD software as previous generations.
It is quite well understood in the industry now that the AMD 7970M is the better option between the two for calculating complex models and
we would recommend this as the better choice for Maya, especially considering the price difference.

if you dont ever want to use RT (gpu version) then by all means go with the AMD (ati) card. but if you do, then you have to choose the nvidia one.

besides, im not a Maya expert, but in Max at least, nvidia has always been the (my) preferred choice... better drivers...)

besides, having had a brief look at that link, i see in maya, the AMD card is less than 1 fps faster than the nvidia one, so strange they are pushing you so strongly in that direction..

yeah 680m is a lot more expensive. sounds like ill go for 680m though, so glad i checked with u guys first. I was about to go for the radeon.. and i would like to use the RT feature for sure.

so in vray, do I use CUDA for the RT?

U know u can use RT in CPU mode right? U dont need GPU to run RT.

Also how much does ur laptop cost from ur website?

And where are u located, UK or US?

i live in south pacific zone, so close to Australia
