  • Rhino 5 crashes with Vray 1.5? Common issue? Solutions?

    Question:

    I have Vray 1.50.22165 in 64 Bit & the Rhino 5 90Day Eval. 64 Bit Built No
    5.1.20927.2230.
Both is installed under 64Bit Windows 7 Pro Service Pack 1.
The computer has 8Gb RAM and is a brand new i5-3450 CPU @3.10Hz 3.50 GHz machine.

The license server on our network is running and I do not get an error message when starting Rhino.

Rhino simply freezes once I hit a Vray button.
The file I do this in is also not especially large.

    Any thoughts? Common issue? Solutions?

    Thanks for your input.

What is the last message at the Rhino command line and is the progress window open, if yes, what is shown there?

      Hi Micha,

when I start Rhino 5 from scratch with an empty file all it says is:

Loading V-Ray for Rhino, version 1.50.22165
      File "C:\Program Files\Rhinoceros 5.0 Beta (64-bit)\Plug-Ins\VRayForRhino\Misc\VRayForRhinoV4_tb.rui" is already open.
      Loading Rhino Render, version 1.50, Oct 24 2012, 23:42:12

Current Renderer is set to Vray for Rhino.

When I then hit a Vray button, for example the "Options" button, it says _visoptions in the command line & Rhino stops.

After 30-40 seconds a blanked out white V-Ray option window appears but I can do nothing.
Than further 20sec down the line the buttons show up, but I can not do anything.
Normal Rhino 5 ops work flawless.

I am working on files located on our network.

      Thanks for further thoughts.

        Hi,

The most probable reason is missing V-Ray license.
Check your license settings, do you have v-ray license server started?
