  • Teak deck margin planks?

    Hi,

I am wondering what the most efficient method to create margin planks is when rendering with Rhino & Vray.
Maybe there are some boat savy people here who have thoughts on this.

My starting point would be, to split the teakdeck rhino surface at its intersection with the margin plank.

Then assign the teak planking to the interior surface with the "planar" mapping channel.

For the margin plank surface, I have the problem that it usually has an irregular shape with four corners.
Is there a way to map a margin plank with its circumferential bead of caulking in one go?
Basically it would be a mapping with an equidistant black circumference along its edges and a wood texture in the centre.

    Any thoughts?

At the moment I would split the caulking area of and assign a wood texture to the margin plank & a black texture to the caulking.
    Can this be avoided?

    Thanks,

    Franzi

    Franzi,
My method has been the make a an B&W image of the caulking patern and use it as a mask in my teak/caulk material.
See example below. The teak deck is then a single surface and material.
