  • particle flow to follow phoenix sim question

    Hi

    is there any tutorials for this or sample/demo files?
    we basically want to convert a phoenix sim to solid 'regular' geometry - we figure you can go particle flow particles following phoenix sim and then mesh this result some way (frost perhaps?).
    i am no expert..just trying to get it to work 'practically' before someone 'qualified' takes it forward..

    just put phoenix force operator in your graph. if you just need particles following the fluid, you can also use the phoenix native particles, i think frost is able to read them.

      thanks we have a basic setup going now , we have particle flow particles appearing within our fire (birth and force operators) and we are trying to kill the inappropriate ones with the test operator -(not mush success with that yet- we get particles that approximate the phoenix sim but then fly off all over the place.
      i assume we have the wrong channels selected somewhere...

      i did not realise that phoenix particles were accessible (out the box) and interestingly when we use frost with it we get the same shapes (as in off all over the place) as we do with the p flow system & if we turn the pf off we get no frost mesh - so i guess we are doing this wrong

      in viewport are the little red dots (under other in the phoenix preview options) the particles?

      i guess the key to this is understanding how to kill the pf particles in sync with the correct elements (channels) of the phoenix simulation

      any more advice greatly appreciated -i can see from the manual you have this covered (hence the particle flow operators)- we just need to understand it better

        you can kill inappropriate ones with the test operator, for example if you need to kill all the particles outside the fire, set the test operator to use the temperature channel, check the "true if below" option and send the particles to delete operator. unfortunately phoenix test operator is considered not active when the particle is outside the box, so you need to add another test operator to kill such particles

        about frost - which version you have? i've never tried it, but krakatoa supports phoenix, i suppose frost should support it as well

          frost is version 1.2 - it does what it says on the tin - like most think box stuff- the zhu/bridson meshing method is very helpful as it gives relatively orderly output compared to other meshing tools
          re krakatoa , we know its theoretically possible to get phoenix to talk to it- i have no idea how- i wanted to keep it as simple as possible but if we have to call on Krakatoa i guess we will try,is that the method you would favor?
          (i guess is phoenix to kraktoa to prt to frost)

            phoenix native particles are much faster and you can manage millions of them in few seconds per frame, but they have no control, no way to cut off the particles outside the fire.
            so, better use pf, it is slower but is controllable.
