no it doesn't, it works only if you use the zoom tool, but it should also work by just scrolling the middle mouse botton in the direction you point the mouse, like google sketchup

Sometimes it just doesn't work for me. Can never work out why or what fixes it but it's pretty annoying when it stops working.

i have never seen this work nor have anyone i know who uses 3ds max say they have ever used this in perspective view. trying to get autodesk to look into this. its really handy and would realy make like easier in modelling since i am a sketchup user mostly and i know many many more people are. has anyone ever consistently got it working in perspective viewport? if not why not vote on it

are you sure we are on the same page here? because i even now went and asked and tested max and there is no way to get my mouse wheel to scroll and zoom without going to the center of the viewport in perspective view. you can zoom in any direction you want though using the zoom tool but not with the mouse wheel. post a video if you have got the zoom to go in the direction you choose with the mouse wheel.

Oh i just tried it and it doesnt work. I mean I know it's worked before but it's not now. There is an option for this function exaclty, but like most things it doesn't seem to work...
