  • Waiting 2 years for new update with major fixes on mac!

    Dear VfS developers,

I purchased VfS at 30.03.2011 for mac It was the latest and actual version for Mac.

After installing --> no real workflow !!! --> If I closed my VfS document and reopen --> lost all my material settings in the document, ... etc. Every time!

Using VfS is was possible only for one session.
After reopen your project --> all materials are gone and must tweak again, again, again .....!

No workflow possible! This is not acceptable for a paid pro software (remember the cost of 720 US Dollar)!

Wrote this to support, which answers :
    >This issue should be fixed in the next build. Ware working in a new build of V-Ray for Rhino, as soon as we done with V-Ray for Rhino we are going to release a new build for Sketchup.
    I apologize for this inconvenience
    . <

After Rhino is ready a long time now --> NO FIX for VfS (mac) !!!

THIS KNOWN MAJOR BUG IS EXISTING 2 YEARS NOW !!! ...and no patch

I really hope, there a NO EXTRA COST for the new planed VfS update for existing registered users. (specially on mac)

For now, I feel like have made a money present for nothing in the past!!!

    Best regards,
    Thomas

We have already begun a closed beta test for the new version of V-Ray for SketchUp for Windows. A OSX version is being worked on as well, and should be getting to the beta testing phase by the time we do an open beta test. The material layer bug is one we have heard of before. We have found that users have the most trouble when using more than one instance of SketchUp open at the same time, so you may want to avoid doing that in the meantime. Your patience is appreciated, we realize that a new version is needed, so we have been working towards that goal for the past few months. We are now doing simultaneous development of V-Ray for Rhino and V-Ray for SketchUp, in the past we only had the staff to work on one product or the other, so the future is looking very positive. Thank you for staying with us through this difficult time, we hope to make the wait worth while.
    Best regards,

I haven't used the OSX version, but isn't it possible that it's the same workaround for losing materials settings as on the Windows version?

Before closing the skp session ALWAYS open and close the VfSU Options Editor, then save.

The options editor thing is necessary in 1.49.01? I thought that was an issue in 1.05.30. The only time I've really been able to reproduce the material layer messup, is when two sessions are open at the same time. We clear out our texture cache when you load a scene, so if you open two scenes, we wipe out the first scene's textures. Then when we go back to try and use some of the first scene's textures for a render, and we can't find them, we freak out. Another issue that is specifically OSX related, is that SketchUp behaves in a completely different way on Mac and PC. On the PC, each instance of SketchUp lives in it's own process. On Mac, all instances of SketchUp all live under one master process, and we can't tell which material editor belongs to which SketchUp window.

Ooops, my bad. I've been doing that workaround for so long that it's become second nature. I just tested it now and it seems to function correctly in 1.49.0.1!

I'll have to run a few tests as I'm sure a colleague came to me with this problem just over year ago (also running 1.49.0.1) and I had to show him the workaround. If it really was fixed in 1.49.0.1 I'm going to have to untrain myself from this habit!
