  • matte material?

Hi everyone, my name is Paulo and i'm new here
I have a question that i hope someone here could help me with: does anyone have any info on how they did the "floor" material showned in a vray webinar, it seems similar to a "use background" material in Maya.

I am guessing here but most probably they used VRayWrapperMtl for the floor with matte surface option enabled.

Yes, that's starting to be the most probable answer to me too, although this was a webinar about vray 1.5, and since the "official" version doesn't have this material, i found it strange that they used a different version to make this webinar
Anyway i was just hopefull that there was some way to simulate this with the 1.5 version.

I just discussed the issue with the person who did the webinar. According to him the effect was done by using radial ramp in the opacity slot of the floor material and for its diffuse color he used the same texture which was set in the dome light.

          Hi
When we made that scene, we didn't have Wrapper material. So for the floor I use a material that have in the diffuse slot the same HDRI that I used in the Environment Background. Then I use a radial gradian mapping, black in the center and white in the border, in the transparency slot. This radial gradian mapping in the transparency slot with fade and blend the edges of the floor geometry with the background.
Right now we support wrapper material, So this will be the best solution for the production render. I found that the wrapper material doesn't work very good while RT is running.

Thanks Zdravko and fpedrogo! This technique actually works reasonably well in most cases

It's a pity that the old worflow doesn't work anymore since HDRI textures are not supported for the diffuse layer anymore, the HDRI is clamped now.
