  • The impact of reducing JPEG quality in PS

    Hello,

    I have a quick question about texture JPEGS.
    What happens if you save the same texture with a low or mid quality in Photoshop keeping the same number of pixels.
    Would this affect the final render? If so, how much would it be affected?

    I haven't saved a texture as jpg for over ten years... Jpeg is a destroying format which of course will affect the final output of your scene. Just try and save the jpg, zoom in and watch the artifacts show up. If you also use it as a specular, bump etc. and the light plays over the surface, you're sure to see it. And really, storage is cheap (again) nowadays, so there isn't any reason to save as jpg.

        I use PNG all days. It's using a lossless compression and support integrated alpha.

          openEXR is what you usually want... Its opensource supported by vray.

            Is it true if you use openEXR it wall save RAM when rendering?

              Yes it can do it. I depends how the file was saved I believe.

                Only if you are using VRimage in the output panel and select EXR as your output extension.

                  I am wondering if using vray textures in exr format will save RAM?

                              Thank you for the link. Could you kindly send me a download link as well? I could not find where to download it from the link you gave me.
                              It should work fine for Vray for Rhino as well, right? Also, would other tools work for Vray for Rhino?
