Thank you for the link. Could you kindly send me a download link as well? I could not find where to download it from the link you gave me.
It should work fine for Vray for Rhino as well, right? Also, would other tools work for Vray for Rhino?
It should be already on ur hard drive in Vray folder...

        Hi, Undersky.

Thanks for your reply. I have a quick question about your workflow - I am very new to vray so please understand me if it is a very elementary question..

You said you use tga and sometimes png - So if you get some textures from the web like CGtextures.com (Most textures are JPEG). If this is the case, do you bring those images into PS and change them from JPEG to TGA or PNG? Or, Once texture is saved in JPEG, it already lost the information and turning it into tga or Png in PS will be pointless?

I wanted to ask you this question.

Also, if you latter is true, then do you shoot your own textures or get them in tga or png format off the web in the first place?

        Thanks in advance!

Otherwise, tga is a safe bet. It's faster to read/write than png. I usually use tga or sometimes png.

            Hey there

If its JPG then it already lost the details and the only benefit of moving it to EXR is to save memory in future.

Texture wise it depends what do you want to use them for and how accurate they have to be. Most of the time JPG can "do" the job just "fine" but on specific jobs and so on I suggest building your own library and learn to do 32 bits hdrs etc etc...

            Good luck

              Hi, Dadal

Thanks for the reply. Yes, you are right about making my own library. I really should invest time into making my own from now on. There are just too much materials online and sometime I find myself lost in them.

Does the EXT method save lots of RAM when rendering?

I think if your textures are 16 bit 5-10k big that it will save quite a lot of ram but not sure...

                  Thank you! DADAL
Do you know if the file size affect RAM usage? And does different formats affect RAM usage as well? For instance, JPEG vs PNG VS tga if you had a same image?

                    Heya

Yea I'm pretty sure the size of image affect ram usage. But not the size of file. Format wise it all depends what compression you use and how well can Vray uncompress them and use them. I think generally the best one is Tiled EXR by Vray tool. But I honestly never did run extensive tests so no idea how it could compare against other....

                    Thanks, bye.

DADAL, this is great that it only depends on the size of the image (pixel dimensions). Thank you tremendously for your help.

Just dont take it as 100% fact, I might be wrong or stuff might change in future

                        Keep on testing
