  • caustics, swimming pool and sun - please help!

    Hey everyone,

I've been trying to get caustics in my pool hall model for a couple of days, and still no luck! I've watched a lot of tutorials online, tried changing both the "caustics" parameters, and the ones of the sun (even set the photon emit distance to 15 billion) - but can't even get a simple cube to produce any caustics, not even talking about the water surface. Does anybody have any experience with achieving caustics with the sun in V-ray for Rhino? Or perhaps can anybody please share a visopt file with working settings? Also, does anybody know if the scale of the model and its distance from 0.0.0 affect the result? If achieving caustics with the sun is tricky, which type of light would you say works best?

    Many thanks!

Just to add to the complexity of caustics - I've found that there is an added issue related to the z-axis location of the model - check this thread:

    http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...le-model/page2

I just confirmed this is still an issue for VfR 1.50.22564 and have reported it as a bug - I'm attaching the model in case you'd like to play with it.

    water caustics test.zip

So given this, perhaps the location of the model WRT 0,0,0 does matter.
