  • Fluid keeps generating even though discharge = 0?

Hi, my company recently purchased phoenix so I'm trying to familiarize myself with it. Right now I am using it for liquid. I am creating a sort of abstract effect where several liquid sources animate down spiral ramps and splashes into a series of pools. When viewed directly overhead these pools form a 2d graphic.

Unfortunately I am having a problem where the phoenix source continues to generate fluid even though discharge is set to 0. I read in another thread that I must also animate temperature to 0, so I tried that to no effect. What must I do to tell a phoenix source to shut off? My fluid sources have the temperature and uvw channels checked (each fluid source is a different color).

    Thanks for any help!

Some more info: I've moved the source object completely out of the simulation area, but fluid keeps expanding and generating in the area with fluid. So it seems like the fluid is self-replicating? There's no other source for the fluid...

Not sure what is going on without a scene. Can you send it to phoenix at chaosgroup.com?

i suppose you are using the general purpose source, not the one designed specially for liquids (if you are using max version). this is not a mistake at all, but is harder for beginners.

Yes I am in max and using the generic source (PHXSource). I did not realize there was one specifically for liquid.

Sorry, I guess I'm still confused. Where is the source designed specially for liquids? Is this some different type of PHXSource object, or is it a setting within the Simulation object? These are the only objects I see in my Helpers menu:
