  • Excuse me

    Hi there,

I came to this forum because I'm looking for some generally information to help me with an issue I have. I've noticed I can't post any threads anywhere but here. I know this isn't the right section but I'm hoping this thread can be moved to the correct one, or somebody that might help here.

I've been working with VRay for a couple of weeks now, and I've sorted most of my issues out but there is this one thing I can't find any information on. It's regarding a render element; WireColor.
I'm rendering some buildings, and I'm using a wirecolor to quickly apply some automated actions in photoshop on my render. I use this to paint dirt on streets, add contrast to walls/roofs and to add birds in the sky etc. Now my photoshop actions don't always work because the RGB values for the wirecolor that I'm entering in 3DS max aren't the same that I receive after in my final render, and my photoshop actions are based on those...

So, I know that gamma has influence on the WireColor, but I was wondering if there were any other render settings that influence this. And will the wirecolor values always stay the same if I keep using the same gamma/render settings? Even if I change the position if lights / cameras?
So basically I'm looking for a way to keep the WireColor RGB values always the same, could any of you let me know whether or not this is possible?

    Many thanks and kind regards,

    Farmer Rob

You should be using the mutimatte element rather than wire color. You only get 3 channels for each one you load up, but you can have as many as you want in there. (make a render elements preset with 30 and delete as required)

      Hello Farmer Rob

For access to other forums please send your request to support@chaosgroup.com - include your dongle serial number and your forum username.

Wirecolor render element is not affected by any render-settings , camera/light positions and etc.
It is affected only from Output Gamma value - and if you always use the same Output Gamma there shouldn't have any difference in the final color in Wirecolor Render Element.

If such difference exist please send us the original scene with original wire-render element , and scene with changed color + wire-render element for investigation.

There are also other render elements like MultiMatte which could be used to extract quick masks from Vray - but WireColor should work fine too.

Thanks for the suggestion Cubicle, I'll keep in mind.

Thanks Svetlozar, It's good to hear that only the gamma will have influence. I'll report if anything comes up and I'll send that request.

        Problem solved .
