  • Vray 3.0 for Maya?

    Hello guys,

can someone please explain to me the difference between Max and Maya in terms of Vray? I've noticed that Max has had Vray 3.0 for some time now whilst Maya just got 2.4 released. Is 2.4 the same as Max's version 3.0? Or why are they not both on the same version?
And if its different then is there an ETA for 3.0? I've tried google but the only rumour I could find was september which didn't turn out to be true.
    I'll appreciate your clarification please

    Thank you so much

Max is flagship app for chaosgroup so the newest version of vray are always for max. Then few months later there is Maya release. After that u get Rhino, sketchup and others. So the Vray Maya 3.0 is still quite far away. The releases don't happen at the same time for different software's - sorry.

oh i see. Why do they not compile them together? As its the same render engine then it would make sense to do it together, no? The difference in coding for max or maya can't be that extremely different that would require so much time as a gap.
I'm not sure about Max but I thought that Maya was more widely spread especially in movie etc. Wouldn't it make sense business wise to have at least Max and Maya together?

Not sure. I think its because Vray was originally developed for Arch Viz and its only from few years that it comes to movies and so on. Also the implementations are slightly different and I just don't know why really Id say in a way its good max get release 1st. Then by the time Maya gets it we get quite large amount of bugs ironed out

Yeah, that i guess is the only benefit. )
Lets hope the gap will get shorter and shorter

There is no ETA for V-Ray 3.0 for Maya yet; we are running a small closed beta, but an official public beta will be released after the official 3.0 release for 3ds Max. There are several reasons for this; one is that two simultaneous releases are a bit too much to handle and the other is that we want to get some feedback on the features from the 3ds Max release before rolling them into the Maya version (although sometimes things happen the other way round).

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Thank you Vlado for the update. Do you think we can look forward to this xmas or more likely next year?

I would say next year. Is there something specific that you are looking for in it? We can hook you up with the private beta in the meantime...

I see. I guess next year will be very exciting. All these rumours from different companies
To be honest, I'm not looking for anything specific as I'm new to Vray and learning it now. I got fed up with mental ray being so complicated and everyone kept telling me that Vray is more artist friendly so I'm on the learning curve. I do however agree that its way more user friendly than mr.
private beta would be awesome but I'm not sure I'm "pro" enough at the moment but I'm slowly getting there )))
