  • renderfarm problem

Hi, i have submit some of my file to online renderfarm recently, but the result is difference from the result i render using my office PC.

i am using max design 2014 with sp3 updated, i didn't any any 3rd party plug-in in that scene i mention here, Gamma.LUT is Gamma 2.2, color mapping is Reinhard with gamma 2.2 + mode: color mapping only (no gamma) [which is default setting], and enable sRGB button in Vray Fram Buffer.

    with this setting:

    * everything look fine when render in my office PC, but the renderfarm result make the image look over overexposure (note: it not wash out like double gamma).

and then the renderfarm guy ask me to change the mode to color mapping and gamma and submit again, with this setting:

    * still everything look fine when i render in my office PC, but the renderfarm result come out with the image with double gamma.

and finally we get it right by changing the output gamma to 1.0 on their online renderfarm page, with this i didn't make a try with my office PC.

I forgot from which thread i have read in this forum, that Vlado has mention that, just leave everything in default setting with 3d max 2014 for the gamma setting is the correct way, but i start confuse when i get difference result from renderfarm, which is right??? dafault or...
    Best regards,

    Hi,

It's very odd, you should get the same gamma result in this case.
It is build 2.40.04, right ?

How do you save your renders, through the Max native option or V-ray VFB raw image?
What is the output file format ?

About the V-ray gamma settings, you can check this thread #20:
        http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthr...F-button/page7
        Posted by Vlado.

It will be helpful to see some screenshots from the results you get on your workstation and the one rendered out by the renderfarm service.
You can use our support mail to send the file.

tashko.zashev, thank you for link, i have read the thread posted by Vlado, here is my question:

The correct settings for 3ds Max 2014 are as follows (and the defaults in the 2014 builds of V-Ray will be very similar):

          Max gamma 2.2
(is this mean set the Gamma/LUT Correction in max to Gamma= 2.2?)

          Bitmap input 2.2
(this is the default for Max 2014, and we only can change using MaxScript, right?)

          Bitmap output 2.2
(this is the default for Max 2014, and we only can change using MaxScript, right?)

          V-Ray VFB sRGB button ON
(this is the default for Max 2014,right?)

          V-Ray color mapping Gamma 2.2
(this is the default for Max 2014,right?)

V-Ray color mapping "Don't affect colors" ON
(i cannot find this in Max 2014, it only can find in the older Max version, so what is the setting for Max 2014?)

          V-Ray Linear workflow OFF
          (i don't check this normally )
          Best regards,
          Jackie Teh

            Max gamma 2.2
(is this mean set the Gamma/LUT Correction in max to Gamma= 2.2?)
            Yes

            Bitmap input 2.2
(this is the default for Max 2014, and we only can change using MaxScript, right?)
            Bitmap output 2.2
(this is the default for Max 2014, and we only can change using MaxScript, right?)
Yes, 3DS max should be smart enough to handle all image formats correct.

            V-Ray VFB sRGB button ON
(this is the default for Max 2014,right?)
This is by default in V-ray 2.40.04 builds.

            V-Ray color mapping Gamma 2.2
(this is the default for Max 2014,right?)
By default for all V-Ray builds (Max 2014, 2013, 2012..)

V-Ray color mapping "Don't affect colors" ON
(i cannot find this in Max 2014, it only can find in the older Max version, so what is the setting for Max 2014?)
Yes, the color mapping section has some changes. "Don't affect colors" option is now removed and its the same as you set to "color mapping only (no gamma)" mode.

              Tashko Zashev,

Yes, this is what i have read from a thread by Vlado, and i guess the renderfarm setting is difference at this point. because the scene which i send to render farm is exactly as what you describe here and it is my setting too, but no choice if i want use their renderfarm, i have to follow their setting right?(which is set the Bitmap output to Gamma=1.0)
              Best regards,

You have to follow the renderfarm recommendations i think.
