  • Some questions!

    Hello guys !
I have a bunch of questions regarding Phoenix Fd and ill be happy if i get the answers
    1. Is there a way to change the shape of the simulator (for ocean surface) because i dont want it to be in box shape, or whats the way to make it interacting with a shore, lets say? I tried to include the shore object with the function include and exclude in the interact bar but i dont get simulation after that, or if i just put the simulator right in position with the shore , the water is coming up on the shore surface , witch i dont want ...
2.What is the way to see the simulation in real time with all the movement like with the fire (in the viewport) right away (if there is a way of course) and after that what should i do when i finish my simulation to see it , and witch player should i use ( is it PDPlayer ? ).
3.And if u can give me some references about settings for ocean , i made my own but i feel like its not the best one ... Sometimes during the simulation i get huge bubble like "waves" or some explosion effects on my foam , and sometimes a holes in the water...
4.Do i have to put a wind system for the movement of the water for sure or its moving without that ? (i think i see difference in the renders so probably i get some movement)
5.Some tips for the shading for the foam and splashesh cuz i dont get them in render... probably cuz my surface was big and i cannot adjust the right settings ...

Thanks alot in advance guys !
    Regards

Hello, our ocean specialist will be out of office until next Thursday, so I'll try to give you some clues:

    1. The simulator is always a box, and the ocean extension is built to fill the camera view. To make it interact with the shore, you just need to intersect the shore with the sim container - by default it will act like an obstacle. You don't need to specifically include it from the Interaction panel. Can you share a screenshot of how the water comes up on the surface?
    2. You can preview the liquid surface in the viewport from Preview->Show Mesh. This way you can see it as a max mesh.
3+5. I hope the other forum users can help you with preferred ocean settings, but you can check the samples under Documents\Phoenix FD\samples (the submarine sample)
    4. Yup, the ocean texture does not need wind. For the waves that hit the coast, you may use a force, but you have to be careful to blend in with the ocean extension.

About 5. Did you put PhoenixFDFoam and properly connect it?

        Thanks guys, for the reply
I kinda made decent material for the ocean , the problem now is that the water and all the bubbles that are result from the boat crossing the ocean are pretty big for the scene and it seems to me like the density or something like this is kinda not set up correct for an ocean size...I tried 2 different scenes-One in centimeters and one in meters and the result is the same .... I got references from the submarine scene with all the vray settings and the simulator but its not working out ...
Im uploading some images , and thanks in advance for the help again !
Ivaylo, yea i linked the shader for the foam and the splashesh , ill get to there when i fix the problem with the water , thanks for the reply

            Hi,

For this scenario you might want to check the "ship" sample scene.

As far as I can see, the grid seems to be pretty low res. Try increasing it (50M should be enough).
Don't forget to link the simulator to the boat. This method let's you simulate only small area around the boat, instead of creating huge simulator that covers the whole boat movement.

Setting the scene to real scale is the best way to go for big ocean scenes. If your boat is the right size, measure the distance
that is travelling and divide it by the time to get the speed. Once you have the right speed you'll be closer to getting the final look.

Yes, I included the boat to interact with the surface , the thing now is that i get the huge wave/bubbles from the front of the boat interacting with the water and they are behaving like there is now gravity at all... I tried everything in the simulator but cannot fix it ... I guess is something to do with the scene setup in general but idk what else can be exept the units scale , if u can help me ? and im with the demo version , thats why i have limit of the cells that i can use

I fixed my phoenix and i can simulate now with more cells. Ill try with higher number and c if that was the problem thanks for the responds guys, ill keep u in touch

The problem left now is that the water after the boat is too vicious, like its crossing with very high speed ... i tried with increasing std gravity but its not working ... probably lower the speed of the boat ? If yes-how haha
                  Thanks

You can lower the speed either by making the boat travel less distance, or stretching the keys of the boat animation to a longer frame range.

I did lower the speed , but stil , the water is getting pretty wild behind the boat ... i fixed my units and speed and still ...

What build are you using? If it is the official one (2.1) you won't be able to replicate the "ship" scene, because a lot of the functionality was added after that. If you have access to the nightly builds I would recommend you to download one and give it a try. You can also attach the scene here.

settings for foam and splashesh with a static object in a ocean ? (foam around the object and little splashesh from the waves ? )
                              Thanks
