  • Render Optimization

    Hey,

This is my first post here so I'll keep it simple. I'm doing an animation for my final project at school and I need to get my render times down to something more manageable. Right now it's taking 2.5 hours per frame and with 2:00 of film I can't afford the 468 days of rendering for 2 mins of film. I've attached pictures of my current render settings and my current scene at 2.5 hours. There are very few textures in my model right now and I'm afraid it will only get longer if I don't optimize them soon!

    I'm running windows 7 x64 with a 3.7ghz processor and 16g of ram with an NVidia gtx680 @2g

Try change image sampler(AA) Min=2 to Min=1, this will speed up your rendering time.

Ok I will give that a try and see what happens. Thanks!

You arrendering using a saved solution, right? Is everything static apart from the camera? Turn of the AA filter to add a bit more speed.

Yes, everything but the camera is static. So I should calculate the light cache for the animation first then the irradiance map? I found this article about animating fly through clips and that's what it suggests.

            Hi,

Yes, this is one approach to get a flicker free GI solution when you render a fly-through animation.
Another approach is to use the options "use camera path" for LC and Irr. map calculations in case that the your camera path is not too long.
