  • Vray Cell shading

    Hello every one !

I was trying to make a cell shading material with vray.
I'm using the toon mtl to make the outlines, but i don't know how to make this kind of hard shadows.
But i don't manage to make it good... I looking for this kind of effect :

Hi I was playing a little bit with the material editor to see if I could get a close material to the one that you are looking for. Unfortunately, to create a good cell material we need a mode in the falloff called "Shadow/Light" which is not available at this moment in V-Ray for Rhino. Also we need a Mix Curve to be able to control the shader.
I made a very simple version of the material using falloff and angle blend. With this option I'm able to get at least two tone of the material. Unfortunately they act in respect to the camera and not to the shadow/light how the mode that we have missing.
Anyway if the material work for you here in my version:

      Hello Fernando,

Thanks for the reply ! I had also try with the tex_falloff, but my results were worst than yours.
I hope Chaos Group will add some feature likes that soon, i think it can be interesting to make non realistic renders.
I will try your material, and see what it looks like with my model.

      Best regards,
      Benjamin

Thanks to Fernando for his greatful help.
I just modify the material angle and axis, add a light to make the shadow on the right side.

        It's a good stuff for a beggining !

        Regards from France,
        Benjamin

                Nice looking!

Interesting could be to test some setups without GI and shadows that aren't set to black - so the light GI looks could be avoided and the look could be more flat toonish.
