  • vray 3, Material .brdf_type = 3 cook torrance model?

    Hi,
i was playing around with max listener and was changing the BDRF i noticed there is a hidden BDRF ".brdf_type = 3"
    As .brdf_type = 0 is Phong, .brdf_type = 1 Bilin, .brdf_type = 2 ward, .brdf_type = 3 ?

So my question is .brdf_type = 3 a cook torrance model? i have noticed that the spec is alot softer compared to the other 3 BDRF models.

    Thanks in advance

No, it is not Cook-Torrance. It is one of my experiments - it is something like Blinn, but it will never generate rays that go below the object surface and it has a smooth transition from mirror to diffuse. However it does not really correspond to the way real-world materials behave.

No, for the moment you can only do that from OSL. However, V-Ray 3.1 will include GGX BRDF as part of the VRayMtl material.
