  • Vray is taking too long to render (Quick question)

    Hi everyone

I've been working with Vray for a while but this is the first time that it is happening.
I am trying to render a model however it is taking ages to render! It starts rendering "quite" fast but after a while it freezes - I am not sure if it is really frezees or if the next process (when the image starts to be pixeled) takes longer to complete.
I left it rendering overnight (8 hours or more) and it still didnt change a thing! I've already purged the unused materials and copy and past the model onto a new template but it didn't help.

I know so far that is it not a problem with my software coz' when I render it with "override the materials" checked it worked perfectly.
    I am using a Windows 7 32 bits.

I hosted the pic of my render on the link: http://i835.photobucket.com/albums/z...vrayrender.jpg
This render has been like that for about 2 hours...

Ps: Ignore the black wall, I applied a material wrongly but Im afraid to close the frame buffer and lose everything

    Thanks

Hi, Can you also post an image of the render settings? And do you use displacement? That can slow things down a lot.

      Hi Peerman, thanks for replying!

Alright! To make it easier --> From the original settings, I have only changed:

      * In Global Switches I turned the default lights on (in order to increase the natural lights)
      * In Camera I decreased the shutter speed to 25,0

Also, I am not using too many lights, in this scene for example, I have only enabled a retangular light which is positioned above the fridge. There are a bit of reflection on the window glasses, wall tiles and floor.
I wonder if the file might be too heavy or if my computer is not able to process it.

      Thanks for your help

It's stuck on LC it seems, that's usually tied to a material related problem. I apologize, but I don't use Sketchup, try rendering with a material override (if such an option exists in VfSu) and you'll notice it renders quickly. You'll have to go through your materials and fix the one(s) that is(are) causing problems.

in your scene, how reflective objects have? mirrors? crystals?
You are using vray proxies? how many instances?

raytrace is enabled in the parameters of lightcache?.

            cheers

Hi guys! Came to thank you all for your help

I finally found the problem, it was freezing due to a material as MoonDoggie said. It took me a while to discover which of them was causing this error but after the modifications the image rendered in less than 5 minutes.

Super thanks again, you are great!

It's a personal project for my parents' house. The pics might not be as good as yours... I still get a bit of dots on the surfaces but I'm still a begginer hehe

Thanks again guys! Im glad to know that I could come here and count with your help.

Make sure to keep all color swatches below 100% white (255 255 255). So for reflections/diffuse/refraction make sure to never set to 255 white (I use 250 at the absolute highest). This should help a bit.
