  • Vismat Material Not Rendering Properly - From Rhino Vismat to Max Vismat

    Hi,

I have Vismat material from Rhino and want to use it with #3ds Max, but it is not rendering correctly as it should, maybe due to some incompatibility or something, I am not sure.
I would really appreciate if anyone could help me creating this material inside Max. I have attached the vismat material and all supporting files, textures and preview files, thank you!

Which Vray for Rhino version you are using and which for 3DSMax.
The final look of the material also depend from the scene setup - have you got the same setup in both 3D platforms?
Furthermore is this material created by you or it is downloaded from our Vismat Library?

      Hi Svetlozar,

Thank you for your reply, yes scene setup is same, I have tried to make it as close possible. Vray Rhino version is 1.5 and Max's is 3.0. For the material i think I had downloaded it from somewhere else.
Do you think it is possible to get exact same result in 3ds max or can if it be converted to render exactly ?

      Kind Regards

Old Vismat materials (including the ones in our website) are not supported in Vray for 3DSMax although some of them are working just fine.
Vismat/Vrmat materials should look the same in different 3D platforms but you have to use the same setup. In the attached screenshots not only the materials looks different the entire lighting and environment setup looks different - the Rhino result looks much saturated than the 3DSMax result.

          Hi,

Yes its more saturated in Rhino, I tried converting it to get the same result but no success, I hope you don't mind me asking if it is possible to get someone to recreate the material in 3dsMax, its a very crucial thing for me, if appropriate I am willing to pay for the efforts. Please let me know if there is anything that can be done here.

I think the Rhino materials are set up to work with the "Linear workflow" option in the Color mapping settings enabled (in the Advanced view). However this option is off in 3ds Max by default. Try turning it on and see if you have more luck.

            Best regards,
            Vlado

Ok then; I'll take a look at the .zip file as soon as I can.

                Best regards,

                  Hi,

It seems that the Vrmats mapping is broken. The texture files that this Vismat file has for refraction and background are not taken into account and the final render result is different from the one in VFR.

I will make a note in our bug system about this.

Yes that might be the reason, thank you!
