  • Deep EXR output in Maya?

    Hello,

I have searched through the internet, there is absolutely no information on how to output DeepEXR with Vray3.0 in Maya. The old method was to use some phython scripts to output a VRST file, but OpenEXR2.0 has since replaced it. 3dsmax has a simple way to output deep data, just a few clicks will do. But none in Maya 2015?
    Can someone enlighten me?

    Hello,

You just have to choose the exr(deep) format from the dropdown "Image format" menu - it's the last one.

Thanks, i couldn't believe i have missed that!

I would also like to know whether .vrscene files can be rendered to Deep EXR?

You can't regulate the exr output format directly in VRayStandalone or in batch render.
But you can directly export the .vrscene file with the option to save to (deep) EXR. Or you can open the .vrscene file in a text editor and set the "img_deepFile" flag in the SettingsOutput plugin to 1.

So if i export the .vrscene WITHOUT the option to save to deep EXR (because VrayC4D does not have that option), then can i still render a deep EXR by opening the .vrscene in Notepad and just set the "img_deepFile" flag in the SettingsOutput plugin to 1?

Yes, but you need a version of V-Ray standalone that has Deep EXR in it.

Isn't there only ONE version of V-ray standalone? do you mean there are multiple versions for different purposes?

It will work with any recent version of the standalone, including the one that comes with your installation of V-Ray for Maya.

so if the .vrscene comes from VrayC4D(which does not support Deep EXR), I can still render Deep EXR from the VrayStandalone for Maya command prompt?

When I open the .vrscene file in notepad, I dont see anything like "img_deepFile". so should i just add a line?

Just add the lines from the screen-shot under SettingsOutput section and V-Ray Standalone will export deep exr file format.

If this is the official version from Dec 13, 2013 it will most likely not support DEEP EXRs.
You will need a newer V-Ray Standalone version.

Do you have license for V-Ray 3.x for 3DSMax or Maya?
V-Ray Standalone 3.x that comes with Max and Maya supports Deep EXRs.

It says Jan 08, 2014 release date.

                          Does it support Deep EXR?

This version is too old and I don't think that it will support Deep EXR.
It would be better to install the latest demo version of V-Ray for Maya 3.x which comes with V-Ray Standalone demo 3.x version which supports Deep EXR files.

It looks like it does. The SettingsOutput plugin has a parameter "img_deepFile" which must be set to true when writing .exr files in order to produce a deep exr.
